Featured: Bersarin Quartett
<img src="http://www.raptorhideout.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/1207824030_bersarin_quartett.jpg" alt="" title="Bersarin Quartett" width="100%"class="alignnone size-full wp-image-130" />
The Bersarin Quartett are a German electronic group. They aren’t a quartet, in fact, they aren’t even a they, it’s a one-man thing. It’s wonderful autumn music. Specifically September music. It fits well. It’s cool and airy music, like a breeze at night.

St. Petersberg [mp333]

Mehr als alles andere [mp333]

Featured: Carissa’s Wierd

They’re from Seattle but broke up a few years ago - lameballs. Wierd is spelled wrong on purpose. There are violins and pianos and guitars and stuff, with relaxing and subtle vocals. Completely wonderful.

Brooke Daniels’ Tiny Broken Fingers [mp333]

Sofisticated Fuck Princess Please Leave Me Alone [mp333]

Featured: Helios

Helios is downtempo and relaxing and other things. I threw in a remix he did too, instead of a second song, just because. I wouldn’t call it ambient… but it kind of is. I might actually call it that… Post-rock-ish kind of also.

Dragonfly Across an Ancient Sky [mp333]

Boy In Static - Where It Ends (Helios Remix) [mp333]

Featured: Fleeting Joys

Fleeting Joys are so totally Shoegaze. They have such a classic My Bloody Valentine sound except better (debatable…). I don’t know what else to say. If you don’t know what Shoegaze is, this is a good place to start.

The Breakup [mp333]

Hello blog!

I’ll pick up some of the slack while Mick is away on his conquering of summer camps or some business like that. So here you have it, a booster pack of summer tunes that will help you get through those blistering heat waves and burger filled months.

First off (sorry I live near philly) we have Summertime by good ol’ Hancock himself, you can’t get much better afternoon time driving music [mp333]

Also how could you go for a drive in July without listening to The Temptations. If you have not had the chance to embrace your inner 70s getaway driver then now is your chance, give The Temptations a listen. [mp333]

And here are a few things to enjoy when the heat subsides and the night roles in:

Blue States, sound familiar? If you are a Zero7 fan or you just really like the movie 28 days later then you will recognize this style. [mp333]

Phoenix, they are from France. I used to think they were from New Zealand… convinced a few people, try not to do the same. Also watch the Flight of the Conchords HBO series, or atleast look them up on the youtubes. [mp333]

Anyways, this weekend I’m going to Boston to see these guys Violet Nine. They seem to be a pretty solid band, and from what I’ve heard they sound great live. I’ll report back next week and post some more music. Thanks for listening, ciao for now.

Kyte are from Leicestershire. Kyte should be listened to if you like Immanu El. I would play Kyte for girls. Kyte is like a kite, but with a y.

Planet [mp333] is probably one of the best opening tracks to an album I’ve heard.

Secular Ventures [mp333] is probably one of the best tracks that isn’t the opening track to an album that I’ve ever heard.

–
Other good things:
–

Boat Club: If you’re planning on taking a daytrip with a boat out into some nice calm open waters on a sunny day, you should definitely bring this album with you.
Always Away [mp333]

Andy McKee: I posted this dude here recently [1]. However, this song is too good to pass up. It’s a cover of Toto’s Africa. If you haven’t heard that song, look it up too, it’s good.
Africa [mp333]

Boris: Just raw straight up heavy distorted rock that makes you want to throw your air guitar around. Some people call it “Stoner Rock” but I don’t really like that term. I know some dudes who buy every edition of each album’s vinyl pressing. Hardcore.
Pink [mp333]

Take: Instrumental Down-Tempo Groovy Hip-Hop. The whole album is as good as this.
Monopoly Money [mp333]

Pyramids: I don’t like this band that much, but I’m sure someone will. They’re the newest band on Hydra Head records (Pelican, Isis, Neurosis, etc) and most of their songs aren’t this gentle. Weird, but kind of cool.
An Echo Of Something Lovely [mp333]

Slow Dancing Society: Probably the most romantic ambient music you’ll hear in a while. Candle-lit dinner, cuddling by the fireplace, car ride in the rain, etc. It’s beautiful.
The Time We’ve Spent [mp333]

iLiKETRAiNS: Dark-themed post-rock with burly man-vocals. If you like depressing tales of murder and death set to epic music as told by a lumberjack, you will like iLiKETRAiNS.
Spencer Perceval [mp333]

–
Check out some free stuff from the guys at Wise Owl Records. You can download full albums from them, and some titles are available for purchase. I host their downloads and have done album art for some of their bands. A bunch of cool dudes.
–

Toma: Gnarly-cool shoegaze-esque music. This song happens to be very slow, catchy and lovely.
Forever Flight Of The Friends [mp333]

Don, The Gun: Uppy and smooth synthy electronic stuff. Download if you are, in fact, a groovemeister. A solo project of one of the members of another band on this label, Petrograd in Transit.
Laminate [mp333]

I’ve never dedicated a post to just one song. There’s a first time for many things.

You’ve heard me post Circle Takes The Square [1] before. Well, here it is again, except this time it’s not screamo, it’s hip-hop. It’s a remix of their song ‘Houdini Logic’ and is one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard. If all hip-hop was like this the world would be a better place.
Houdini Logic Remix (With Trigga and Quick) [mp333]

Also, let me let you know now. I think metal with both metal and hip-hop vocals would be amazing, and the instrumentation would include both distorted guitars and turntablism. If this gets done, just know it was my idea first. If it already exists, please direct me as to where I can find some because I can’t find it anywhere.

Amusement Parks On Fire: I’ve posted another from this band before. If you liked that, you’ll like this. If you didn’t hear that, hear this. Shoegazer/Dream-Pop stuff.
Venus In Cancer [mp333]

Bitcrush: Some good old post-rock, which I haven’t really posted in a while. No vocals, just straight up awesome. A little bit like Glowworm I think, although I could be wrong.
An Island, A Penninsula [mp333]

Ocoai: My friend Emilio pronounces this “okay.” I found this post-metal band in a thread called “Call this post metal and I’ll beat you with a stick.” Let the stick beatings begin.
Lunoir [mp333]

September Malevolence: Not as hardcore as it sounds. Post-rocky with vocallies.
Sinister [mp333]

Windy & Carl: This was decidedly one of my favorite ambient pieces ever after my first time hearing it on the ‘Related Artists of Slow Dancing Society’ radio station on last.fm. Ambient/drone with dog noises. Really long (18 mins).
Sketch For Flea [mp333]

Working on Raptor Hideout 2 tommorow [tuesday], or today technically. I finally have an image in my head of what I want the finished product to look like and who I want my second writer to be. Should be epic.

EDIT: Development on hold until September.

Update:
You can watch the development take place here. I decided to start from scratch and it’s going to be a slow process. It will look like complete crap for a while and not function properly.

When finished, the idea is this: Two blogs side-by-side written by different authors posting music as always using only one Wordpress installation. This should help with the whole long time between updates thing and also make for interesting reading. Now I’ve just got to find that other writer.

Also toying with the idea of mp3 or artist of the week that would be displayed up in the header. I think I could pull this off fairly easily with no extra plugins and minimal coding. Any other ideas? Do tell.

They are from Leicester. Their debut album comes out of the 12th; It leaked. They sound similar to 65dos in a vague way. They are worth buying. They should come tour in the states.

He Films The Clouds Pt. 2 [mp333] has been described as the best song ever.

Not For Want of Trying [mp333] is powerful and emotive, contains a sample from the movie ‘Network.’

On with the show:
Kaskade: Downtempo/Chillout House. Just wonderful for late night escapades.
Honesty [mp333]

Late Night Alumni: More Downtempo/Chillout House. The same artist as Kaskade. Digg it.
Seemingly Sleepy [mp333]

Andy McKee: Ambient acoustic guitar. Just wonderful and warm. You won’t want to turn it off.
Drifting [mp333]

Amusement Parks On Fire: Shoegaze. If that term means nothing to you, it’s wonderful 90’s-sounding dreamy rock music. My favorite album recently.
In Flight [mp333]

Sound Tribe Sector 9: Downtempo Instrumental Hip-Hop. It doesn’t go into the hip-hop section because it’s not. It is really nice, tropical, and has bird whistle solos.
By The Morning Sun [mp333]

Hip-Hop Corner: If you don’t like hip-hop/rap already, this is for you. If you do, this is also for you.

Dälek: The most TPR of all hip-hop. A must-listen regardless of what your previous notions were about rap in general.
Speak Volumes [mp333]

Atmosphere: Just put this new album out and it’s really good, definitely check it out. One of the more dance-worthy tracks on the album, the rest of it seems really heartfelt.
Shoulda Known [mp333]

The Roots: Another sweet track from another new album.
Get Busy [mp333]

Jurassic 5: Older album, but a sweet track. Instrumentals reminiscent of old swing and big-band stuff with solid rap vocals to back it. Definitely something different.
Swing Set [mp333]

I’m not linking to myspaces, it takes too much time.

To celebrate the release of the new Russian Circles album or something.

Russian Circles: Post-rock———-x—-Post-metal. Who knows the boundary lines anyway. This is one of the more ‘aggressive’ tracks on the album.
Youngblood [mp333]

North: Another more agressive post-rock band. Epic, etc.
Nex In March [mp333]

A Swarm of the Sun: It’s hard to describe this band. I was under the impression they were post-rock but now I’m not so sure. I like this song a lot, I think…
King of Everything [mp333]

Payolas: Bob Rock; If this name means anything to you, you should enjoy this.
I’ll Find Another (Who Can Do It Right) [mp333]

Where Is The Love [mp333]

The Burning Paris: If you like them, check out their other stuff and their new band On Fire. One of my favorites.
Building My Own Coffin [mp333]

M83: Yes, I just posted another song of theirs in the last post. I’m obsessed. Also: This song is just really terrifying, but in a really… soothing way? I don’t know what to make of it, but I love it.
Car Chase Terror [mp333]

Tephra: I know nothing about this band, but they were on a compilation CD I got from Magic Bullet Records (Sweet record label). I don’t even remember what this song sounds like but I know I like it. Your guess is as good as mine.
Through Our Veins [mp333]

Lights Out Asia: Electronic/Ambient stuff. Not quite sleeping music but maybe closer to chillout? Post-rock people like this band. Post-ambient.
Lilies On The Subway [mp333]

sleepmakeswaves: This band is really cool and this entire release is free from Lostchildren. They just released a new record which you can buy directly from them on their myspace.
One Day You Will Teach Me To Let Go Of My Fears [mp333]

That is all. Also, doesn’t a Red Sparowes/Gregor Samsa split seem weird to you? Me too. Such a thing exists. Must check out.
